Urner Barry’s Consultancy team has an opening for a Full-Time Junior Economist. We are seeking someone that will conduct research, collect and process economic and statistical data, and prepare various reports and studies. This person will advise our customers to solve problems, create value, improve growth, and maximize business profitability according to scope of project. The successful candidate will liaise between management, project manager, and support staff to help get assigned projects out on time and budget.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Compile, analyze, and report data to explain economic conditions, forecast market trends, while applying mathematical models and statistical techniques.
• Creates, develops, maintains, and updates spreadsheets and other data repositories to collect, compile, and organize collected data.
• Reviews, analyzes, and summarizes data and information as needed to identify trends across the agriculture value chain.
• Prepares reports of findings for assigned projects.
• Gathers, analyzes, and provides concise summaries of government research and interpretations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Eager to test new statistical analysis methods, software, and data sources for continual improvement of quantitative solutions.
• Provide advice and consultation based upon research and own lifecycle of projects.
• Stays current with latest trends and has intellectual curiosity in business and applies them to existing models.
• Meets with clients to understand job scope, present findings as needed, and build business.
• Attend industry conferences as subject matter expert.
• Discusses long-term goals of the business as these goals pertain to the business model.
• Clarifies strategic and operational problems and successes with management.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Agricultural Economics, Accounting, Statistics, or Similar.
• Minimum of one (1) year of statistical research or consulting.
• Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and present information to management, employees, corporate personnel, and vendors/suppliers.
• Excellent analytical, problem resolution, negotiating and project management skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to meet established and changing deadlines.
• Adept in statistical modeling techniques such as linear regression and logistic regression. Other types of statistical modeling techniques like GLM, tree models (Random Forests and GBM), cluster analysis, principal components, feature creation, and validation a plus.
• Advanced proficiency of PC Windows environment including, Microsoft Excel (STAT, macros), Word, Power Point, Access, R, and Python. Some exposure to SQL requested.
• Exposure to GitHub. Strong data processing (ETL) skills.
• Some experience with data visualization (R Shiny, Spotfire, Tableau, and/or Power BI).
• Strong interviewing, research, and report writing, and presentation skills.
